For Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, and Renville Counties Heartland served 12,149 people and 4,164 households in our four county service area.

• 45% of the people served were less than 18 years of age.
• 14% of the people served were 55 years of age or older.
• 32% of the people served were people of cultural and ethnic diversity.

Of the households reporting living accommodation status:

• 42% of the households with children had two parents.
• 31% of the households with children were absent parent households.
• 15% of the households had only single adults.
• 12% of the households had two or more adults with no children.

Of the households reporting educational status:

• 27% of the people did not have the equivalency of a high school diploma.
• 46% of the people had a high school diploma.
• 19% of the people had received some post secondary education or received a college degree.

• 37% of the households owned their own homes.
• 14% of the people reporting had no health insurance. (This is a 4% increase from 2008.)
• 60% of the households had income from wages.
• 20% had income only from wages.
• 50% of the household incomes, or 2,063 households, were at 100% or below the Poverty Income Guidelines.
• 35% of the households served, or 1,457 households, were at 75% or below the Poverty Income Guidelines.
